  18.             WOON '96 - FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS

  21. "The White OO Nights" - a 2-day international conference focusing on
  22. object-oriented technology, WOON '96, is to be held at St. Petersburg,
  23. Russia, on June 20 and 21, 1996. Object technology experts from West
  24. and East gather together to share their ideas and experiences with each
  25. other at a very special time of a year - the White Nights - no darkness
  26. at all - nearly 24 hours of daylight. During the following weekend
  27. there will be an optional sightseeing programme including visiting 
  28. the Hermitage and Peterhof (If you stay over the weekend, the
  29. airline fares are rather low).

  87. Authors should submit an electronic copy of the full paper, in
  88. English, to the program chair (woon@sigco.com) by no later than
  89. March 31st, 1996.  If this is not possible, the full version should
  90. be sent up to April 21th. The short abstract should be sent in each 
  91. case up to March 31th. Papers should be formatted in Postscript, RTF
  92. format or ASCII. They should not exceed 10 pages and should be prefaced
  93. with ASCII text containing the paper's title, authors' names, contact
  94. name, email address, postal address, phone number, and a 100-word 
  95. abstract.

  104. Russia has been (and still is) a major force in most topics - even in
  105. computer science.  A surprising number of software development efforts
  106. within the former Soviet Union are using object-oriented programming
  107. and object-oriented design to build production software systems. Major
  108. universities teach object oriented methods and there is some research in 
  109. this
  110. area. Besides this there is much cooperation between Western and Russian
  111. companies and research institutes.

  113. It seems to be the right time for the first international conference in
  114. Russia about object oriented technology. This conference should:
  115.  
  116. - help East and West to learn from one another
  117. - help to build new connections
  118. - give the opportunity to present and to learn about
  119.   o the actual state of research in OO technology
  120.   o OO based developments
  121.   o practical experiences with OO
  122.

  124. The conference will be held at the St. Petersburg university.

  126. will be provided on-site.  Additional accomodations will be available in
  127. St. Petersburg.  Airport limousine service between St. Petersburg Airport
  128. and the conference site will be provided.
